  • ½ cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 cup)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (for glaze)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tbsp milk or heavy cream (for glaze)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare a 9×9-inch baking pan by greasing or lining it with parchment paper.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and add the vanilla extract, mixing well.
  5. Stir in the mashed bananas until well combined.
  6. Add the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon (if using), mixing gently until just combined.
  7. Fold in the chopped walnuts or pecans, if desired.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. While the brownies are baking, melt ¼ cup of unsalted butter for the glaze.
  11. Whisk in the powdered sugar, milk (or heavy cream), and vanilla extract until smooth.
  12. Let the brownies cool slightly in the pan, then pour the warm glaze over them.
  13. Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting them into squares.

Notes

Use ripe bananas for the best flavor and don’t overmix the batter to avoid dense brownies.
