Description

Cabbage Casserole is a budget-friendly, nutritious dish that combines cabbage, meat, and rice for a hearty meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground meat (beef, turkey, or pork)
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 oz)
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Heat some olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Stir in the ground meat and cook until browned.
  5. Add the chopped cabbage and sauté until slightly softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Mix in the uncooked rice, diced tomatoes, and broth. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a greased casserole dish and spread it evenly.
  8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes, until browned on top.
  10. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, top with cheese or serve with a side salad.
