- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain)
- 1 onion (chopped, yellow or white)
- 1 egg (large)
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup beef broth (low sodium recommended)
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening gravy)
Instructions
- Prepare the beef mixture: In a large bowl, combine the fresh ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together until well blended.
- Shape the patties: Form the mixture into oval patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
- Brown the patties: Heat a skillet and add oil. Brown the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side.
- Make the sauce mixture: In the crock pot, combine the cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, and soy sauce. Stir until well mixed.
- Combine patties and sauce: Place the browned patties into the crock pot, ensuring they are coated with the sauce mixture.
- Cook the dish: Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
- Thicken the gravy (optional): Mix cornstarch with a small amount of water, stir it into the crock pot during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
- Serve: Serve the Salisbury steak over mashed potatoes or rice, with gravy on top.
