Creamy French Onion Soup Mac & Cheese combines rich caramelized onions with a cheesy, comforting pasta bake perfect for cozy nights.
Ingredients
3 large onions, thinly sliced
2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp sugar
Salt to taste
3 tbsp flour
2 cups milk (warm)
1 cup shredded Gruyère
1 cup shredded cheddar
8 oz elbow macaroni, cooked al dente
Bread crumbs for topping
Olive oil for drizzle
Instructions
1. Caramelize onions in butter and olive oil for 35–40 minutes.
2. Whisk flour and milk into a roux.
3. Add cheeses and stir until melted.
4. Combine pasta with sauce and onions.
5. Top with bread crumbs and olive oil.
6. Bake at 375°F for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
7. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
You can substitute Gruyère with Swiss cheese.
For extra depth, add a pinch of thyme while caramelizing onions.
