Description
A delicious and satisfying take on the classic Philadelphia cheesesteak using seasoned ground beef, peppers, onions, and gooey provolone cheese.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 0.5 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 6–8 slices provolone cheese
- 4 hoagie or sub rolls
- 2 tbsp butter, for toasting
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Sauté the vegetables: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add diced onion and green pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes until soft and lightly caramelized.
- Cook the beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it into small crumbles as it cooks until browned. Drain excess grease.
- Add garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Prepare the sauce: Whisk beef broth and cornstarch in a separate bowl. Pour into the skillet with Worcestershire sauce and let it simmer for 2–3 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
- Melt the cheese: Lower heat and lay provolone slices over the beef mixture, covering the skillet until cheese melts (about 1 minute).
- Toast the rolls: Split the hoagie rolls, spread butter inside, and toast until golden brown.
- Assemble the cheesesteaks: Spoon the cheesy beef mixture into the toasted rolls and serve immediately.
Notes
