Description

Delicious and hearty Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteaks, perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or lunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 68 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 hoagie or sub rolls
  • 2 tbsp butter, for toasting
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Begin by heating a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a splash of oil if necessary to prevent sticking.
  2. Add the diced onion and green pepper to the skillet. Sauté the vegetables for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft.
  3. Next, add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart into crumbles and continue cooking until evenly browned, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
  4. After draining the grease, stir in the minced garlic and cook for about one minute until fragrant.
  5. Whisk together the beef broth and cornstarch in a small bowl until there are no lumps. Pour this mixture into the skillet with Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until thickened.
  6. Reduce the heat to low. Lay the provolone cheese slices over the beef. Cover the skillet and cook for about 1 minute until the cheese melts.
  7. Prepare the hoagie rolls by splitting each roll and spreading a little butter on the opened sides. Toast them until golden brown.
  8. Assemble the cheesesteaks by spooning the cheesy ground beef mixture into each toasted roll generously.
  9. Serve immediately while hot and gooey.

Notes

Serve with optional toppings like sliced jalapeños or hot sauce for added kick.
