Description
Delicious and hearty Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteaks, perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or lunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 0.5 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 6–8 slices provolone cheese
- 4 hoagie or sub rolls
- 2 tbsp butter, for toasting
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Begin by heating a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a splash of oil if necessary to prevent sticking.
- Add the diced onion and green pepper to the skillet. Sauté the vegetables for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft.
- Next, add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart into crumbles and continue cooking until evenly browned, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
- After draining the grease, stir in the minced garlic and cook for about one minute until fragrant.
- Whisk together the beef broth and cornstarch in a small bowl until there are no lumps. Pour this mixture into the skillet with Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until thickened.
- Reduce the heat to low. Lay the provolone cheese slices over the beef. Cover the skillet and cook for about 1 minute until the cheese melts.
- Prepare the hoagie rolls by splitting each roll and spreading a little butter on the opened sides. Toast them until golden brown.
- Assemble the cheesesteaks by spooning the cheesy ground beef mixture into each toasted roll generously.
- Serve immediately while hot and gooey.
Notes
Serve with optional toppings like sliced jalapeños or hot sauce for added kick.
